PPA is a chemical modifier which reacts with the asphaltenes components of the bitumen, thus improving the properties of the asphalt binder such as its stiffness, making it more resistant to high-temperature deformation, while maintaining flexibility at lower temperatures, preventing cracking.
When combined with styrene-butadiene-styrene polymer, PPA also helps reduce the amount of polymer required to achieve desired performance, making it a cost-effective solution for enhancing bitumen quality. Its effectiveness at low concentrations means it can improve the properties of bitumen without significantly altering the production process, offering a versatile and efficient method for improving asphalt performance.
If a crosslinker is employed, make sure to crosslink the polymer first and wait enough time before adding PPA.
