Additives aiding in emulsification, also called dope bitumen, are essential in the production of bitumen emulsions. These biobased additives enhance the process of
emulsification by stabilizing the suspension of bitumen droplets within the water phase, preventing separation, and ensuring a uniform, consistent emulsion. Such
additives are vital for creating high-quality emulsions used in road construction applications like surface treatments, tack coats, and cold mix asphalts.

This ensures that the emulsion remains homogeneous during storage, transportation, and application. These additives also control the breaking time of the emulsion, allowing it to either set quickly or slowly, depending on the specific application requirements.

The addition of these additives is particularly effective when bitumen is difficult or impossible to emulsify.

The use of emulsifying aids also improves the adhesion of the bitumen to the aggregates, ensuring a strong bond, even in the presence of moisture. This results in improved pavement performance and resistance to stripping and other forms of water damage.
