Compatibilizing oils are used in polymer-modified bitumen (PMB) formulations to enhance the blending and compatibility between bitumen and polymers like styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS).
When added to PMB, compatibilizing oils reduce the viscosity of the mixture, making it easier to handle and work with during production and paving. They ensure that
the polymer effectively integrates with the bitumen, preventing phase separation, which can otherwise weaken the material’s properties.
